Facelift
As we get old the skin of our face folds and wrinkles; the tissues underneath it get thinner, the expression muscles of the face get lose and our bones become smaller; producing a 3-dimensional aging process.
Traditionally, the procedures for face-lifting have only treated the first of these elements; they have limited to lifting and cutting the skin. This can result in an artificial look of the patient’s face.
On the contrary, if we restore each one of the elements responsible for aging, in each particular case, you will obtain a more natural result and complications will be less.
Depending on the severity of the case, this can be corrected by the repositioning of the skin and soft tissues underneath it. Also, by exfoliating the skin to give a better aspect and eliminating small wrinkles; by applying fat shots in the areas where the skin has become thinner and by increasing the bone tissue in areas such as the menton and cheeks.
This is usually an outpatient surgery which takes between 5 to 8 hours according to the extent of the deformity corrected; it’s performed under general anaesthesia.
Depending on the patient’s age and aging process, this can be done by small incisions hidden in the scalp, mouth and lower fold of the menton, assisted by the use of special endoscopic equipment that lets us see inside the patient or it can be done by conventional incisions in the scalp and around the ears.
In some cases both are necessary.
These procedures are done under general anaesthesia and patients are socially presentable in about 10 days. Patients that don't live in Costa Rica must think about 10 to 15 days of recovery for a complete postoperatory follow-up. |
